Eddie James Carter was born on June 30, 1948 in Sumter, South Carolina to the late Robert and Mattie Carter. He departed this life on Monday, February 17, 2020 at Prisma Health Tuomey, Sumter, SC
Eddie graduated from Lincoln High School in Sumter, SC. He was drafted in 1968 into the United States Army where he served for 3 years. He was Honorably discharged in 1971, as an E5 Sergeant. During his tenure he received the "National
Defense Service Medal, The Vietnam Service Medal, 2 Overseas Bars, The Good Conduct Medal, The Vietnam Campaign Medal and was an Expert with an M-16.
After the Military Eddie met and married the love of his life, Ms. Brenette Turnage. From this union was born Karen and Priscilla Carter and became "dad" to Margo and Kofi Turnage.
For those who knew Eddie, knew he was always the life of the party. He enjoyed singing, playing the keyboard, playing the guitar and listening to all types of music. He kept you laughing with his many jokes and told true stories in a way that would have you in tears from laughing hysterically. He loved his family and looked forward to family gatherings.
Preceeded him in death, his wife and brother Robert L. Carter.
Eddie leaves to cherish his memory: three daughters, Karen Carter, Priscilla Carter, Margo Turnage, One son, Kofi Turnage, two sisters, Mary Kilgore and Janie Winters, nine sister-in-law's, nine brother–in laws, six grandsons, three granddaughters, one great-granddaughter and one great-grandson.
Three Special friends: Sarah Rheames, Julian "Juman" Davis, Charles "Tall Buddy" Epps.
A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorial Services will be held on Monday, February 24, 2020 at 11am at Salem Chapel & Heritage Center 101. South Salem Avenue, Sumter, with Ricky Simmons, Officiating
Job's Mortuary, Inc., 312 S. Main Street is in charge of arrangements.
