Doris Sheard Smith, wife of Edward Smith, was born October 21, 1936 the youngest daughter of the late Henrietta M. Sheard and Prezzie Sheard and was raised in Santee, SC.  She departed this life on July 9, 2018 at Palmetto Health Tuomey Hospital in Sumter.

She attended Elloree Training School.  After school she moved to New York City and was employed by New York City Telephone from which she retired after twenty years of service.  She then relocated to Sumter, SC and became a member of Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church.  She extended a helping hand to family members and others with her generosity and love for all.

She is survived by her loving husband, Edward Smith; one daughter, Beverly (Kenneth) Garner of Brooklyn, NY; a granddaughter, Natalie Henry; a grandson, Elliott Sheard of Brooklyn, NY; two sisters, Betty (Edward) Robinson of Brooklyn, NY, Loretta (Garfield) Geddis of Melborne, FL; five brothers, Nathan (Marie) Sheard, Alfred Sheard, John Sheard all of Melbourne, FL, Rev. Willie Sheard of Santee, SC and Henry Sheard of New York; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Sheard Plaier; four brothers, Prezzie Sheard Jr, Herman M. Sheard, Steven Sheard, and Richard A. Sheard.

Public Viewing will be held on Friday, July 13, 2018 from 2-6pm at Job's Mortuary.

The body will be placed in the church on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 1:00pm for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church,803 South Harvin Street, Sumter, SC, with Pastor Napoleon Bradford, Officiating, Pastor Marion H. Newton, Eulogist.

Interment will follow in Smith Cemetery.
