Lady Donna G. Thomas was born on October 10, 1952 in Florence County, SC to the late George W. and Helen Owens Gibbs. Lady Donna entered into eternal rest on February 1, 2019.
She attended Gibbs Elementary and graduated from Hannah-Pamplico High School . She then furthered her education at Florence-Darlington Technical College and Penn Foster University. She was employed with Folks Nursing Home, Jeter-Skinner Family Practice, and Internal Medicine Specialist of Florence as a medical specialist.
At an early age, she joined Aimwell Baptist Church and later joined Mill Branch AME Church, where she was a faithful member of the Crusaders and the Young Adult Choir. Later in life, she joined Pentecostal United Apostolic Church. Lady Donna was currently a member of Savannah Grove Baptist Church.
In 1973, she met the love of her life, Frankie D. Thomas and on February 23, 1974, they were joined in Holy Matrimony. To this union, God blessed them with a beautiful daughter, Carla Marie. Over 38 years, God used Rev. Frankie Thomas and Lady Donna to minister and bring his people to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ through Pastoral ministry and planting many churches in the state of South Carolina, such as: Welch Chapel AME, Goodland AME , Bethel AME, Ebenezer AME, Wayman Chapel AME, St. John AME, The Potter's House, Manning Baptist, and New Faith Baptist.
Those remaining to honor her legacy are her loving husband, Rev. Frankie D. Thomas of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Carla T. (Byron) Hamlin of Raleigh, NC; two loving grandchildren, Latterrance and Travace, whom she loved so dearly; one special god-daughter, Cindy M. Jones; three sisters: Mrs. Elizabeth (Andre) Deliha of New York, NY, Evangelist Janell G. Jones of Florence, SC, and Deaconess Mamie (Jerry) Fisher of Jacksonville, FL; two brothers, Joseph (Mary) Gibbs of Buffalo, NY and Ronnie (Rebecca) Gibbs of Pamplico, SC; four sisters-in-law: Jessie (John) Cain of Florence, SC, Catherine Taylor of Dallas, TX, Dr. Flossie Jackson and Janie Timmons (Idabee); and host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many special friends.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Valarie Gibbs; two brothers, Levern Jackson and George Gibbs; and a brother-in-law, John H. Davis.
Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Friday, February 8, 2019 at Savannah Grove Baptist Church 2620 Alligator Road Effingham, SC 29541, with Rev. Dr. Ralph W. Canty, Pastor, Officiating, and Rev. Frankie D. Thomas, Eulogist.
Interment will follow in Florence National Cemetery.
Family will receive friends at the home, 106 Honeysuckle Lane Quincy, SC 29506.
