Obituary

On Monday, December 6, 2021 at 4:11pm, God called Demetre's name. She answered the call and quietly slipped into the arms of her Heavenly Father, where regrets, disappointments, pain, hurt and sorrow no longer exist.

Demetre, the oldest daughter of the late C-MSgt. JD and Bertha Jenkins Battles, was born on June 26, 1953 at Shaw Air Force Base, Sumter, SC and entered eternal rest on December 6, 2021 at McLeod Hospice House in Florence, SC.

She was a 1971 graduate of Sumter High School, and furthered her education at the University of South Carolina, majoring in Sociology. Demetre was on the Spring 1974 charter line of Theta Gamma Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc at USC.

Demetra grew up in Mt. Pisgah AME Church, Sumter, SC, where she was grounded in the Christian Faith. In later years, she became affiliated with Sumter Seventh Day- Adventist Church.
She was employed for many years in Education, Government, and Retail.

Demetre is survived by her sister, Jennifer Battles Jackson of Sumter, SC; an aunt, Vivian Clark Smith of Washington, DC; nephews: Myles Julius (Asia) Jackson, of Houston, TX, Maxx Julian (Chloe) Jackson of Maryville, TN; niece and nephew, Shayla Nicole Battles and Jarryl Dean Battles both of Sumter, SC; grand-nephews: Jayceon Battles of Sumter, Judge Gideon and Justice Samson both of Maryville, TN; grand-niece, Jazmine Battles; brothers, Harold (Henrietta) Fullard of Queens, NY and Johnny (Janet) Williams of Camden, SC; cousins: Adrian (Tim) Fullard Small of Durham, NC, Doris Williams, Alicia (James) Johnson both of Queens, NY, Walter "Chuck" Wilson of Sumter, SC, Carla and Craig Chandler (goddaughter) of Sumter, SC, Mandrielle (Melanie) Judith Davis of Augusta, GA; brother-in-law, Charles Howard (Elouise) Jackson; sister-in-law, Aretha Wright and many other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her soulmate, Patrick Sylvester Davis; brother, Jarryl D. Battles; sisters, Valerie A. Battles and Pynette Battles; cousin, John Harold "Jay" Fullard; and aunts, Edna and Dorothy Jenkins.

Special thanks to all who participated in her care and showered her with your love, calls, plants, and flowers as she began her journey of transition to be welcomed into her heavenly eternal home.

Public viewing will be held on Monday, December 13, 2021 from 2-6pm at Job's Mortuary.

Funeral Services will be held at 10am on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at Hillside Memorial Park, 2561 Cains Mill Road, Sumter, SC 29154
