Obituary
Charlotte C. Lewis, affectionately known as "Cookie" was born June 22, 1937 in Sumter, SC to the late Walter and Susan Montgomery Conyers. She departed this life on Friday June 24, 2016.
Cookie was united in marriage to the late Willie Moore Sr. to this union they were blessed with one son Willie Moore Jr.
Cookie graduated from Lincoln High School in Sumter, SC. She also attended Morris College before relocating to New York in 1956; she then attended and graduated from State University of New York.
Cookie worked on a naval ship at Fort Schuyler in Bronx doing various internships while continuing to pursue a nursing career, her love for people lead her to a career as a Health intern in various fields of expertise. After her retirement from the medical field she made a career change into Hotel and Hospitality, with the Garden City Hotel in Garden City, NY. She worked her way up to Executive Director of Housekeeping where she remained for 12 years. She later accepted a more impressive offer of employment as Executive Director of Housekeeping at the Hotel Pennsylvania in Manhattan, NY where she remained until retiring in 2003. She then returned home to Sumter to care for her mother.
She leaves to cherish her memories; a loving and devoted son, Willie (Rose) Moore Jr. of the home; one step-daughter, Janice Moore-Hawkins, of Chicago, IL; one brother-in-law, Eddie Lewis of Long Island, NY; three uncles, Archie Montgomery Sr., Horace (Jessie) Montgomery., and Stanley (Gladys) Montgomery Sr.; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Cookie was preceded in death by three siblings, Matthew Conyers, Sr., Mark Conyers and Luke Conyers.
Public Viewing will be held on Friday July 1, 2016 from 4-7pm at Job's Mortuary. Ms. Lewis will be placed in the church on Sat. July 2, 2016 at 10am for viewing until the hour of service. Funeral Service will be held on Sat, July 2 at 11am at Legree AME Church, Sumter with Pastor Jeanette Collins, Rev. Lou Conyers, Officiating. Interment will follow in Cain Cemetery.
Family will be receiving friends at the home 2345 Walter Conyers Lane, Sumter.
