Charlie "Bubba" Sumpter was born April 23, 1945 in Sumter, SC to the late Charlie, Sr. and Oline Webb Sumpter.

"Bubba," as he was affectionately known, was educated in the public schools of Sumter, SC.

"Bubba" had a excellent work ethics and was a productive contributing member of society. He believed in doing a good job or none at all. He was employed as a brick mason and at Kline Iron and Steel in Columbia, SC.

"Bubba" loved to sing "Purple Rain," play Spades, and riding his bike to the park on Lafayette. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. People were drawn to him because of his warm loving personality.

On October 12, 1964, he married the late Genett Wright Sumpter.

He leaves to cherish his memory a niece who he claimed as a daughter, Sabrina (Pastor Robert) Temoney; five children: Thelma (John) Brunson of Sumter, SC, Charlie Sumpter III of Columbia, SC, Glen Sumpter, Sandra (Willie) Richardson and Lesa Sumpter all of Sumter, SC; twenty-one grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren; three sisters: Geneva Sumpter of Sumter, SC, Jessie Gallloway of the home, and Hattie Mae (Willie) McKenzie of Gable, SC; three brothers: Josh (Geneva) Sumpter, Herbert (Willie Beatrice) Sumpter, and Robert (Linda) Sumpter all of Sumter, SC; a brother-in-law, Roland Billie; seven sisters-in-law: Rosa Lee Bracey, Shirley Marble, Edna (Leroy) Thom, Letha Wright all of Sumter, SC, Sarah (Ronnie) Barton of Columbia, SC, Evelyn (James) Gass and Daisy Wright of New York City, NY; father and mother-in-law, William (Sarah) Wright; his home health nurse whom he grew to love like family, Diane Elliott of Amedysis Home Health Care; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Public Viewing will be held on Sunday, October 27, 2019 from 2-6pm at Job's Mortuary.

Mr. Sumpter will be placed in the church on Monday, October 28, 2019 at 2pm for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral Services will be held at 3pm on Monday, October 28, 2019 at Salem Chapel & Heritage Center 101 South Salem Avenue Sumter, SC 29150, with Elder Andre McBride Officiating, and Pastor Robert Temoney, Eulogist.

Family will receive friends at the home, 525 E Calhoun Street Apt#63 Sumter, SC 29150.
