Charles June, beloved son of the late Brooks and Annie Mae June, was born on December 4, 1945 in Sumter, South Carolina. Charles was the third child out of six from that union. He departed this life on Thursday, April 19, 2018 after a lengthy illness. God saw the need to give his servant rest when he called him from labor to reward. He fought a courageous battle right up until the end; he never gave up.
Charles was educated in Sumter County Public Schools. Charles was a sophomore in school when he left Lincoln High School in 1961 to go work in the cotton fields with his family. He was a very hard worker and always held two and three jobs at a time. Charles loved having money in his pocket, that's why he worked so hard for everything. During the summer seasons, he would travel to Wilmington, NC to work in the tobacco fields. In 1963, Charles left South Carolina and moved to Baltimore, Maryland. In September 1991, Charles married Renee Graham and adopted her son, Jerel, as his own. Charles and Jerel had a special kind of father and son bond. He worked for many years at the Infamous Sparrows Point. Charles worked with dangerous hazardous materials, but that did not stop him from working hard to support his family. He mastered the skills of construction work and brick laying. Charles worked on top of those high buildings. He worked his way up the ladder and earned the position of a Foreman. He loved having the power to hire and fire people; and prided himself as being a leader on the job, to his family, and friends and community members.
Charles was a very giving person and just had a genuine love for everyone. He would give his last to anyone who needed it. Charles was very caring and believed he could help the whole world if he could. He was a father figure to many and had a stern belief in hard work. Charles was a courageous man who stood for what he believed in by "ALL" means necessary! He has always been a protector of his siblings & family. It's part of the reason why his brother Larry nicknamed him "Don Cornelian Charles". When it came to cooking breakfast....he was the master chief with his fluffy eggs and grits so soupy you could sop it up with a biscuit. Charles loved to have a good time; every weekend he would go out dancing and playing cards. When his health started to decline, he would sit home and watch his Western's and the Wrestling Matches.
Love ones who preceded him in death are: parents, Brooks and Annie Mae June; one child, Todd Oliver; three brothers: Edward, Hazel, and Willie Lee June; one sister, Mary Frances June-Thomas; and one grandson, Ronnie June, Jr.
Charles will truly be missed by his family and friends. He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Renee June; four sons: Marvin Ford, Charles June, Jr. (Keisha), Ronnie June, and Jermaine Jones; two daughters, Tosha "Stella" Oliver and Candice June-Thompson (Jay); two stepchildren, Karen Graham and Jerel Williams; one brother, Larry June; one devoted companion, Yolanda "Cookie" Thomas; one special friend, Mr. Shelly Hall; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
