Montgomery

On December 22, 1924 in Sumter, S.C., the late Ingram Montgomery and Loris Budden Montgomery was blessed with another son whom they named Archie L. Montgomery , affectionately known as "Foota" by his loved ones.
Archie received his education in the public schools of Clarendon County. He was a World War II veteran and he was honorably discharged from the Army on January 19, 1947, having received a victory medal. His military specialty was that of a Rifleman.
On August 27, 1946, Archie wed the late Louise Conyers Montgomery and to that union, they were blessed with 14 children. In 1968 after years of service, Archie retired from The Pennsylvania Railroad Station in Manhattan, NY and in 1969, Archie began working for the NYC Department of Education as the Supervisor of School Safety leading their special task force unit where he retired from in 1989 after 20 years of service.
In 2001, Archie and his wife along with their younger children of the home relocated back to Sumter S.C. where they rejoined LaGree AMEC, under the leadership of Reverend Henry Williams. At the time of his death, Archie was the Father of the church, as the oldest living member.
On Friday September 14, 2018, at the age of 93, Archie took his final rest at NHC HealthCare in Sumter S.C.
Archie leaves to cherish his memories: fourteen children: Katie J. DuBose, Geraldine Carter, Sandra (Grover) Clark, Charlene Anderson, Stanley Montgomery all of the Bronx N.Y., Dawn Michelle Langley of Coral Springs, Florida., Rudy Montgomery of Dillion, S.C., Rose Robinson of Columbia S.C., Nellie (Clyde)Young, Archie Montgomery Jr., Melvin (Priscilla) Montgomery, Darrel Montgomery, Kendra Montgomery and Kenyada Montgomery all of the home; thirty-three grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Stanley (Gladys) Montgomery of Sumter S.C. and Horace (Jessie) Montgomery of Tampa, Florida; sisters-in-law, Pansey Conyers, Lou Conyers, Gladys Montgomery and Jessie Montgomery.
Along with his parents in heaven, Archie is joining his loving wife of 66 years Louise Conyers Montgomery; his granddaughter, Danielle D. Walton; Great Granddaughter, McKinley Montgomery; his brothers: Herbert Montgomery, Pete Montgomery, Ingram Montgomery Jr., Jacob Montgomery, Matthew Montgomery; Sisters: Susan M. Conyers, Edith M. Pack, Loris M. Conyers, Easter M. Ballard, Julia M. Timmons and Sara M. Sanders.
Public Viewing will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 2-6pm at Job's Mortuary, with Masonic Rites beginning at 5pm.
Mr. Montgomery will be placed in the church on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at 1pm for viewing until the hour of service.
Funeral Services will be held at 2pm on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at Salem Chapel & Heritage Center 101 S. Salem Avenue Sumter, SC, with Rev. Jeanette Collins-Murray Officiating.
Interment will follow in Cain Cemetery.
Family will receive friends at the home, 851 Bay Blossom Avenue Sumter, SC.
