On Sunday, October 22, 2017 Annie took her spiritual flight at home surrounded by her children. She left her earthly vessel and entered into eternal bliss that is reserved for those who love the lord. She joined her heavenly father and love ones who had gone before her.
Annie Dickey McLeod was born in Sumter County, South Carolina in the township of Shiloh on March 2, 1929. The third daughter of the late Paul and Pearl Miller Dickey.
She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Lester McLeod and they lived in harmony and love for 59 years. This union was blessed with four children.
Early in her life she began her faith journey at Asbury United Methodist Church where she served faithfully and diligently in many ministries. Her spiritual wisdom and knowledge impacted the lives of many. She dedicated her life to serving God and others.
Annie McLeod was educated in the Sumter County Public Schools, received her Bachelors of Science Degree from Morris College, Masters in Education from City College New York, NY, Business Education Certificate Pace University, Pleasantville, NY, Masters of Divinity from Auburn Theological Seminary, New York, NY, and Advanced Studies in Early Childhood Education, Bank Street College of Education New York, NY. On June 13, 1993 she was consecrated as a Diaconal Minister and in January, 1998 she was ordained as a Deacon by the New York Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.
She was employed as a teacher at Fleming Elementary School, Lynchburg, SC, Social Worker for Westchester County Department of Social Services, Social Worker and Assistant Director of Marymount College Early Childhood Developmental Center and Director of the Saint Matthews Early Childhood Center where she retired.
Annie McLeod was active in community and civic affairs throughout her life. She was an exemplary example of Christian living and a loving spirit. She was a charter member and Past Worthy Matron of Skyway Chapter No. 351, OES Lynchburg, SC. She was a member of Bright Hope Chapter No. 46, OES White Plains, NY, an avid member of the NAACP, The Battle Hill Association, Board Member of the Westchester Foster Parents Association, member of the NY State Beautification Association, Board member of the Westchester County Day Care Association, President of the Student Aid Society and member of the Inter-Faith Council.
Cherishing fond and lasting memories are her four children Wilhelmenia (John) Presley, Beverly (Robert) Perry, Karl (Hazel) McLeod and Gerald McLeod all of Lynchburg, SC. Two loving nieces, Faith (Nick) Davis, Columbia, SC and Adlina Brianna Slater, Timmonsville SC, reared in the home. Seven Grandchildren Jawanda (Terry) Staber, Stamford, CT, Ronald Anderson, Lynchburg, SC, Kevin Hall, Mt. Vernon, NY, Jarun (Edith) Presley, Lynchburg, SC, Karla McLeod, Mt. Vernon, NY, Raye Deleah Perry, Lynchburg, SC, Jaminah Presley, Lynchburg, SC, Roslyn (Tim) Hess, Columbia, SC, fifteen Great-grandchildren, three sisters Rosa L. Dickey, Maggie (Lawrence) Nelson all of Lynchburg, SC and Pearl Lawrence, Charlotte, NC and one brother Ralph Dickey, Lynchburg, SC and nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by two great-grandsons, Ihsan and Brenten Perry, a sister Vertell Harrison and brothers Robert, Paul, Ernest, Thaddeus, and Arnold Dickey.
Public Viewing will be held on Friday Oct. 27, 2017 at Asbury United Methodist Church 355 Pudding Swamp Rd, Lynchburg, SC 29080 from 4-6pm and Order of Eastern Star service will begin at 6:30pm
Ms. McLeod will be placed in the church on Sat at 10am for viewing until the hour of service.
Funeral Service will be held on Sat Oct. 28 at 11am at Asbury United Methodist Church, Lynchburg, SC with Pastor Shirley A. McKnight, Officiating.
Interment will follow in Goodman Cemetery, Lynchburg, SC
