Obituary

Alfred Jarrett Harvin was born in Pinewood, South Carolina on March 15, 1962 to the late Deacon William and Carrie Edna Gibson Harvin.  He joined the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church at an early age where his belief and love for God was formulated and developed; and where he nurtured his gift of singing.

"Bo", "Deak", or "Al", as he was affectionally called by many, was born with a peaceful demeanor that attracted everyone he met. He enjoyed and loved life by engaging in his favorite hobbies of listening to all types of music, grilling, deep-sea fishing, and camping.  A talented singer, Alfred sang on the Scott's Branch High School choir, where he graduated from in May 1980.  As a result of his singing skills, he obtained a full choral scholarship to South Carolina State University where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice in May 1984.  Upon graduation, he moved to Los Angeles, California where he worked for an attorney service firm and Federal Express Corporation.  In 2002, he transferred his employment with Federal Express to Richland, Mississippi where he worked until his unexpected death on the afternoon of Saturday, September 29, 2018.

Alfred's departure from this earth, leaves so many to cherish his memories.  To forever honor his companionship and goodness are: the love of his life, Janice Woods; his step-son, Marcus Woods; his step-granddaughter, Jasmine Byrd, all of Hazlehurst, Mississippi;  His siblings:  Anita Darleen Harvin of Hinesville, Georgia, Rosalind Harvin Newton of Pinewood, South Carolina, William Junious (Juanita)  Harvin, Jr. of Navarre Beach, Florida,  Helena Lucille (Tyrone) Murphy of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Sheila Laurette (Benjamin) Snoddy of Spartanburg, South Carolina;  three very, very special cousins: Albert and Bessie Harvin of Paxville, South Carolina and Rebecca Shannon Taylor of Goose Creek, South Carolina; two nieces, Alivia Murphy and Nicole Harvin and two nephews, Jason Harvin and Titus Murphy; three aunts: Clara Shepheard, Geneva Gibson, and Otha Logan; and a host of loving relatives, co-workers, and friends.
