A time to be born…
Mr. Alfred Eugene Walker, known as "AL" by his
friends was born Saturday, October 26, 1946, to the
late Charlie (Lilliouse) Walker, Sr. Alfred departed
his earthly life on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at 3:37
a.m. at his home – 6301 Farrow Road, Columbia,
South Carolina. He was the second of five children
raised in a Christian home where his parents
taught and modeled the word of God.
A time to grow…
Alfred was educated in the public schools of
Sumter County and was a 1964 graduate of Eastern
High School. He played football, basketball and was
a member of the Eastern High School band. He
furthered his education at A&T University in North
Carolina, majoring in science, and Morris College,
Sumter, South Carolina, majoring in Biology.
Alfred was drafted into the United States Army and
served in the Vietnam War from 1966 – 1967. While
giving service, he was reacquainted with his friend
and classmate, Sergeant Timothy Sanders, who he
credits for helping him through the difficult times
of the Vietnam War and for saving his life.
After completing his military assignment,
Alfred returned to South Carolina and gained
employment with Exide Battery. He then relocated
to Springfield Massachusetts, where he gained
employment at South Winsor Experimental
Facility NASA. Square D (now known as Schneider
Electric) offered him employment as a transfer
employee from South Winsor Experimental Facility
NASA. He accepted and relocated to Columbia,
South Carolina and gave 35 years of employment
service with Square D (Snider Electric).
A time to live…
On December 29, 1997, Alfred married Ann
Gladden, and to this union, one beautiful daughter
was born, Tabitha (Brent) Davis. Alfred is the father
of two sons, Donald (Julie) Gardner, and the late
Chuckie Geter.
A time to worship…
At an early age, Alfred became a member of Melina
Presbyterian Church, and later affiliated himself
with Haskell Heights First Baptist Church and as
time continued, he reaffiliated himself to Melina
Presbyterian Church.
A time to mourn…
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents,
Charlie (Lilliouse) Walker, Sr., three brothers,
Wilbert Walker, Terry Walker and Matthew Walker,
and a son, Chuckie Geter.
Alfred leaves to cherish his precious memories, A
Loving Dedicated Friend, Ida Mae Williams Britton;
a brother, Charles "Ronnie" Walker, a son, Donald
(Julie) Garner; a daughter, Tabitha (Brent) Davis,
two Sister-in-Laws, Geneva Walker, Deloris Walker,
two Uncles, Robert Walker, Lyndsey Walker, four
aunts, Mary Walker, Delores Walker, Margaret
Walker, Cassie Walker, two very special friends, Mr.
Alonzo "AC" Lewis, Kenneth "Man" Jones, a host of
grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and close
friends.
Interment will follow in Melina Presbyterian Church Cemetery, GABLE, SC
