IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ada Burns
Wright
July 5, 1941 – October 17, 2025
Ada Burns Wright, 84, widow of George Wright Jr. and daughter of the late Larry Burns Sr. and
Lena Walters Johnson Burns, was born on July 5, 1941, in Sumter. She departed this life
peacefully on Friday, Oct. 17, 2025, at her residence. She was a faithful ordained minister, and a
Church mother at Grace Cathedral Church, where she served on the usher board. She attended
the public schools of Sumter County and Sumter Area Technical College. She retired from
Georgia Pacific, VB Williams, and SC State Department of Disability and Special Needs.
As a Christian widowed woman at 35 years old, and later, suffering the loss of her eldest son, she
gave herself unselfishly to her children, grandchildren, family members, friends, and church
family. She was supportive towards every family in need. Though she endured many trials and
tribulations in healthcare systems, she demonstrated the meaning of resilience, faith, and trust in
God, and she inspired steadfastness in faith and perseverance during hardships. It was God,
everyone's love and prayers for her that kept her thriving throughout physical challenges. She
loved and extended prayers and support to everyone, until her death.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded by a son, Butch Bernard Wright, nine (9)
brothers (Emmanuel, Marion, Eugene, Leroy, John Henry and Earl Burns; and John, Willie
"Buddy", and Joseph "Sun" Johnson), and five (5) sisters (h Johnson McBride, Dorothy Ford,
Eva Burns Wright, Susan Burns Dupree Blackwell, Mary Lee Burns), two brothers in-law
(Freddie Lee and Timothy Wright and Naham McBride, Sr.), three sisters-in-law, (Jeanette
Burns, Norma Burns, Mary and Ethel Mae Wright).
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: four daughters, Charity Burns, Gale Wright-Lyons,
Petra Wright, Sonya Wright all of Sumter; one son, Keith (Cynthia) Wright of Pooler, GA; four
grandsons, Randy Davis, Jr., James Frazier, Sheldon Burns, and Diontre Walker; five granddaughters, Shakia Davis, Joshalyn Harris; Asjia (Josh) Simmons, Keianna Wright, and Skylar Wright; a host of great-grandchildren; a bonus daughter, Gloria (Greg) Hopkins; a goddaughter, Brenda House of Florence; and a godson, Michael Amos; two god-granddaughters, Selena Hopkins and Antoni Deas; one sister, Sarah Richards; four brothers, Ezekiel Burns, Rufus Burns, and Lester Burns; two brothers-in-law, Leroy (Wilma) Wright, and Willie Jean Wright;
and a special cousin, Deloris Hodge. She had a heart for her nieces and nephews, especially those who were attentive and dutiful, Dorothy, Faith, Gloria Jean, Yvonne McBride, Gary Dupree, and Charlie Wright, Jr.
Mother Wright, as she affectionately called, at 84 years old, had an abundance of loyal and
loving friends, Ms. Ella Rea Gibson, Ms. Runette Little, Ms. Dorothy Brunson, Ms. Cassie
Gibson, Ms. Maggie Tindal all of Sumter, Ms. Barbara Williams of Rochester, NY, the late Ms.
Gussie Walters Ragin, and the late Ms. Louise Ford, who she considered her sisters.
Thank you to CenterWell Home Health occupation therapist, Cynthia Rose, and physical
therapist, Lou Cutter, who were therapeutic anchors of love and support. Much gratitude to
McLeod Hospital, Florence for helping our mother realize the true meaning of healthcare. We
love and appreciate everyone who loved our mother.
